The TechGameMods typing speed test is simple to use. Here is how it works step by step:

  2. Click the text area — Click on the words box to focus the hidden input field.
  3. Start typing — As soon as you type the first character, the timer starts automatically.
  4. Green = Correct, Red = Wrong — Each character changes color based on whether you typed it correctly.
  5. Timer runs out — When time is up, your results are shown: WPM, accuracy, correct chars, wrong chars, and time taken.
  6. Restart — Hit Restart to take the test again with fresh words.

How is WPM Calculated?

WPM is calculated using this simple formula:

WPM = (Correct Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Minutes Elapsed

We divide by 5 because the average English word is 5 characters long. So if you type 250 correct characters in 1 minute, your WPM = 250 ÷ 5 = 50 WPM.

Accuracy is calculated as: (Correct Keystrokes ÷ Total Keystrokes) × 100
