A bottleneck happens when one component — usually CPU or GPU — cannot keep up with the other, limiting overall system performance. Like a highway narrowing from 4 lanes to 1, it doesn't matter how fast your other components are — the slow one determines your speed. In gaming, a CPU bottleneck causes low FPS and stuttering even with a powerful GPU. A GPU bottleneck means your CPU is idle waiting for the GPU to finish rendering frames.
Is 10% bottleneck acceptable for gaming? +
Yes! A 0–10% bottleneck is considered excellent and you will not notice any performance loss. 10–15% is still very good. Above 20% starts to cause noticeable issues. Does resolution affect bottleneck? +
Yes significantly! At 1080p, CPU matters more — more CPU-side bottlenecks occur. At 1440p, it becomes more balanced. At 4K, the GPU handles almost all the work, making GPU bottlenecks very common and CPU bottlenecks very rare. This is why a "bottlenecked" system at 1080p may be perfectly balanced at 1440p or 4K.
Should I upgrade CPU or GPU first? +
For gaming: If your CPU usage hits 95–100% while GPU is below 80% → upgrade CPU. If GPU hits 95–100% while CPU is below 70% → upgrade GPU.
